About these terms

These terms of service ("terms") apply when you visit patternsforpirates.com, request a free pattern, buy from our shop, or download files from our Pattern Vault. In these terms, "P4P," "we," "us," and "our" mean Patterns for Pirates. "You" means the person using the site.

By using the site or placing an order, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the site. Our Refund policy and Privacy policy also apply.

Contact us

Digital products only

Everything we sell is a digital file, such as a PDF sewing pattern and tutorial, a cut file, or a printable. Our patterns aren't finished garments, and we don't ship anything.

You need a device and software that can open, save, and print PDF files. For reliable access to size layers, use the free Adobe Acrobat Reader desktop app; layer support varies in other PDF viewers.

Your pattern license

When you buy or receive a pattern, you get a license to use it. You don't buy the copyright. Unless a product page says otherwise, the license for our sewing patterns is:

“You may sell items made from this pattern. You may not sell, copy, or redistribute this pattern to others.”

In practice, this means the following:

  • You can print the pattern, including at a copy shop, and sew from it.
  • You can sell the items that you make from it.
  • You can't share, send, upload, sell, or give away the pattern files, printed copies, or pattern pieces. Anyone else who wants to sew the pattern needs their own copy.

Some products, such as certain cut files, state their own license on the product page. For example: "This license is for PERSONAL USE ONLY." When a product page states license terms, those terms apply to that product.

Intellectual property

Our patterns, instructions, tutorials, photos, cut files, designs, logos, and other site content belong to Patterns for Pirates or its licensors. Copyright and other laws protect them. Except for the license in these terms, you may not copy, republish, or reuse our content without our written permission. You're welcome to link to our pages.

Orders, prices, and payment

  • Prices are in US dollars. Any applicable taxes are calculated at checkout.
  • We accept the payment methods shown at checkout. Shopify and those payment providers process your payment; we don't store your full card details.
  • If Shop Pay Installments is offered at checkout, a third-party lender provides it under its own terms and decides who is eligible. Our Refund policy still applies to the pattern purchase.
  • We try to show accurate prices and descriptions. If we find an error, we can correct it and cancel affected orders. If we cancel a paid order, we refund your payment.
  • We can refuse or cancel orders that we reasonably believe are fraudulent or break these terms. 

Discounts and gift cards

  • Spend discounts: Our everyday spend discounts apply automatically at checkout when your eligible pattern total reaches the levels shown in our store. Gift cards don't count toward those levels and don't receive the discount. Spend discounts don't combine with other discounts, and we may pause them during sitewide sales.
  • Sales and discount codes: Each offer applies only as stated in that offer. Offers have no cash value, don't apply to past orders, and can change or end at any time.
  • Gift cards: Gift cards are digital and are sent by email. You can use a gift card balance across more than one order until it runs out. Gift cards can't be exchanged for cash except where the law requires. Keep your code private, because anyone with the code can use it.

Getting your paid patterns

After checkout, you get your download links by email and on your order status page. If you can't find your files or a link stops working, email help@patternsforpirates.com and we'll get you your files.

We may stop selling a pattern at any time. If we retire a pattern that you bought, we'll still get you your files.

Past purchases from our previous website

Orders placed on our previous website don't appear in your account on this store. To download those patterns, visit our Pattern Vault at vault.patternsforpirates.com and sign in with the link that we email to the address you used for those orders.

The Vault includes the files that your earlier purchases entitle you to download. It doesn't restore free downloads that had already expired on the previous website. If something is missing, contact us. The license in these terms applies to Vault files too.

Free patterns

  • To get a free pattern, enter your email address on the pattern's page. You might need to confirm your email address before we send the pattern.
  • When you request a free pattern, you agree to receive that pattern and P4P pattern news by email. You can unsubscribe at any time by using the link in any of our emails.
  • Your free-pattern downloads link can expire. If it does, request the pattern again while it's still offered free.
  • We decide which patterns are free and for how long. A free pattern can change, become a paid pattern, or be removed at any time.
  • Free patterns come with the same license as paid patterns unless the product page says otherwise.

Accounts

If you use a customer account, give accurate information and keep your email account secure, because sign-in codes and links are sent by email. You're responsible for activity in your account. We can suspend access that is used to share our files or to break these terms.

Community and other sites

Our site links to other sites and services, such as our Facebook group, video tutorials, and suppliers. Those sites have their own terms and privacy practices, and we aren't responsible for their content. Our Facebook group also follows Facebook's rules and the group's own rules.

If you post photos, reviews, or comments about our patterns, you're responsible for what you post. Don't share pattern files in any group, forum, or other community space.

Disclaimers

We work hard to make accurate, easy-to-follow patterns. Sewing results depend on your measurements, fabric, printing, and experience, so check the size chart and fabric requirements before you cut. Our site, files, and content are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties beyond those that the law requires. We don't guarantee that the site or downloads are always available or error-free.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent that the law allows, P4P isn't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses arising from your use of the site or our products. Examples include the cost of fabric or notions, lost profits, and lost data. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount that you paid for the product that the claim relates to. Some places don't allow these limits, so they might not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits rights that you have under consumer protection law.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The "Last updated" date shows when they last changed. Changes apply from the date that we post them and don't affect orders placed before then.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, except where your local consumer protection law gives you other rights.
