Kamali Azubike Obiagu paired her Peg Legs – Colorblock Pack with the racerback version of the Essential Tank.

Megan Kuhlman paired her Peg Legs w/ Contour Waistband (from the Add-On Pack!) with a cropped style Hepburn Top.

Aaronica Bell Cole paired her Peg Legs – Colorblock Pack with the Fierce Bra.

The Peg Event :: Peg Legs Release + Update – What’s New?

September 4, 2020

What a day, what a DAY!  We are pumped about our newest release of the Peg Legs – Colorblock Pack and update to the beloved Peg Legs, and Peg Legs – Add-On Pack!

Before we get moving too far into this, I’d like to remind you that we’ve got a sitewide sale happening from now until Saturday, September 12.  In addition to that, we’ve got an awesome giveaway happening, with 14 amazing prizes (and 14 amazing prize winners)!  You can read all about The Peg Event HERE.

Let’s talk the new Peg Legs – Colorblock Pack, shall we?

The Peg Legs – Colorblock Pack is a special spin on our basic leggings pattern.

This new Colorblock Pack give you a super fun diagonal piece on the thigh for a lot of fun opportunities with different fabric combinations. The diagonal colorblock is also super flattering on the front and back. The waistband is a high waisted/high rise contoured waistband but this time we gave it a little heart/v shaped to the back side to show off those squats you’ve been working on!

The waistband also has a fun diagonal pocket or two to hold your things…because pockets are important! We truly hope everyone enjoys this fun new pack to the Peg Leg collection!

Options include: Shorts (5″ inseam), Bike (just above knee), Capri (calf), 7/8 (above ankle), and ankle lengths. You can choose from plain waistband, 1 pocket or 2 pockets.

Enjoy several videos throughout the tutorial like what fabric suggestions and a complete sew up from start to finish.

They are drafted in adult sizes and are for the full, newer size chart, extending from XXS – Plus 5X!  If you haven’t sewn with us in a while, please make sure to check the size charts, as there were slight adjustments made to accommodate the new size range for adults.

**Want to learn more about how to measure yourself for this pattern?  We’ve got you covered with an in-depth blog HERE.  And in case you’re new to Patterns for Pirates and PDF patterns in general, we have a great blog full of new-user tips HERE to help you get started!  As with all of our current releases and updates, the pdfs now include our layers feature and can be found in Letter, A4 and A0 sizes.  And for even more helpful fun, we have a *free* printable that you can use to help record your measurements as you take them.

Let’s take a look at some of our tester images!

If you’re looking for a little more inspo from our fabulous testers, head over to this FACEBOOK ALBUM to look at all the goodness they are providing you!

On top of the new release covered above, we also gave an update to our original Peg Legs pattern, as well as the Peg Legs – Add-On Pattern!

What changed?  Here are the details:

  • We adjusted our size chart and range to match with our updated range.  Now Peg Legs can be made for anyone sizes XXS – Plus 5X!
    • If you haven’t measured yourself in a while, take some time to do so.  It’s healthy when sewing for yourself anyway, because weight and size can fluctuate so much and you want to make the perfect size for yourself.  But also, our chart adjusted ever so slightly and you might fit into a different size range now.
  • We added a projector file for our friends who like to use their paperless technology.
  • There are a few more labels added to the pattern pieces, to help with common questions we’ve seen come up over the years.

Here are some links to all of our FREE leggings patterns, so you can get to sewing!

New Pattern Release :: Classic Sports Bra!

April 23, 2020

We know that times are……something right now.  Our new normal isn’t anything remotely what normal used to mean to us.  It’s scary, lonely, wacky, busy, boring, stressful, and all of the descriptive terms you could ever lump into a couple months of life.  Let me begin by telling you that our hearts go out to everyone right now.  Our entire Pirate Crew hopes that you are safe, healthy, and maintaining whatever version of “okay” you can muster up during this moment in time.  We absolutely love our Pirate Family and we wish you all the best.  Thank you for continuing this feeling of community and camaraderie that we are all craving and deserving at this moment in time.  You have no idea how much you mean to all of us.

And with that, we were hoping to bring a little sewing excitement into your lives!  (drum roll please) :: It’s release day, y’all!  Let’s talk about the Classic Sports Bra, our newest pattern duo!

Right now, sports bras might be more important than they’ve ever been.  I can’t tell you how many of my friends are either completely taking advantage of their new schedule by working out more than ever before — and how many of my friends are taking advantage of their new schedule by rocking loungewear all day, every day.  Whichever version of my friends that you are, we’ve got you covered.

The Classic Sports Bra is…well…a classic sports bra!

You can create a light impact bra out of casual fabrics for lounging, sleeping, and all around comfort.  You can use an athletic knit for a light impact for yoga, walking and other lighter exercising.  You can add more support with inner-lining, removable cups, more stable athletic fabrics like supplex, using the more supportive wider under bust band for a great medium impact sports bra ready for light jogging, hiit workouts, zumba, ellipital, etc.  Anyone can find their favorite combo with racerback and straight strap options, full back or with a cut out and hook and eye bra back closure.  Lets talk a little more about that bra clasp option… it’s amazing! It’s simple to attach and makes getting the tight fit bra on and off so much easier– especially after a hot workout when you’re sweaty!! wheww!

The sizing follows our normal XXS-Plus 5X size chart, but ALSO includes both small bust and full bust adjustment pieces.  So if you find your full bust falls into a size smaller or larger then your over bust…we have you covered!  Youth sizing is 12 months to 14.

The front color-blocking is perfect for using up those beloved….hoarded? 😉 fabric scraps you have saved for the perfect project! You can make a more solid by using all the same fabrics or create a super fun combo with all different fabrics!

The tutorial includes several videos throughout the tutorial including fabric selection, size mashing for youth, sba and fba explanation for adult, piecing the front color-blocking, “burrito roll” lining method and sewing in elastic, bottom binding, attaching hook and eye bra closure and TWO complete sew ups using different options.

You will also find one more file with our new release… the Projector File.  This is a larger PDF with all pieces on the fold facing the same direction, a couple grid layers you can turn on to scale and off to cut, and one big page to scroll down as you cut.  I hope this helps all those jumping into the new trend of going paperless!

Let’s take a quick look at the different options and features!

P4P’s Next Top Tester

September 16, 2017

“How do I become a P4P tester?”  It’s a question we’ve heard a million times.  We even wrote a blog post all about how to get noticed by the Pirate Crew.

But friends.  Listen up.  Because next week, we are bringing you a special opportunity that just might fast track you into our tester group.  Allow me to announce:

That’s right!  We are doing an open call for a FULL BLOWN pattern test for P4P, and you’re invited!  Be sure to check the Patterns for Pirates Facebook Group on Monday, because we will posting a tester call.  And we are taking EVERYONE.  It’s going to be a wild ride and I couldn’t be more excited!

Top Tester will be putting you through the ringer.  You will be taking on a pattern test, and you’ll be doing all of the steps that we do for any of our normal tests.  Which means we will have size assignments, fit pictures and feedback, final photos, tutorial feedback, and promoting of the pattern when it gets released.

#P4PNTT will result in two official winners: a Top Tester and the Runner Up.  But first, let’s talk schedule.

Tester Call!
Monday, September 18, 2017

I will post a “Tester Call” for the challenge in the Patterns for Pirates Facebook Group. You’ll need to sign up with your size and information in the form we will be sharing with you.  There area actually two unisex patterns, and we are looking for men, women, boy, and girl models.  Everyone is welcome to join!

Measure, measure, measure!! Kids grow fast and weight/size fluctuates weekly.  Make sure you have the most up-to-date measurements so you can make the appropriate sized garment.  Knowing your actual measurements and not what you’d pick up in a store is SO IMPORTANT for testing.  We want to put out a pattern that is drafted for the proper sizes.  (Need help measuring?  We’ve got a post HERE all about it!)

We aren’t telling what the pattern is until you’re in the group (since we’d like to keep it a surprise) but we didn’t want to leave you scrambling for fabric this week.  Here are the fabric requirements, based upon 44″ wide WOVEN fabric.

Print, Sew & Fit Feedback + Tutorial Edits/Feedback
Tuesday, September 19 – Friday, September 22, 2017
All participants will be added to a private Top Tester group on Facebook. (Remember to check your emails on Tuesday for the invites!!)

Print, assemble and cut your pattern.  Select your fabric.  Sew up your garment.

This portion of the process, we ask that you make your assigned version first, and you make sure to only print the pattern right before you’re about to sew — since we can make several changes to the patterns during the process and we want people sewing the most recent update.

Show us “fit” pictures with feedback.  This is a huge step in getting our patterns just right.  These do not need to be professional pictures.  They can be cell-phone shots or selfies, but we need to see how things are fitting in the size you signed up for!  It helps us identify any fit issues throughout the testing process.

We will also be posting the tutorial for the pattern(s) for you to edit.  The PDF will be located in the files within the Top Tester group and will have spelling mistakes, typos and maybe some construction errors.  Put on your “editing eyes” and catch the problem areas and provide us with revisions.

Final photos
Sunday, September 24, 2017

Take your photos and load them into the Top Tester group.  We prefer natural, outdoor photographs but understand completely that the weather doesn’t always cooperate.  You will need to provide at least 5 pictures showing fit from all angles. Think front, back, side shots, close up on details, etc.  You may style them as you like, but remember the focus of the picture should be the garment and it should make sense for the item you’ve sewn.  **You do not need to have a fancy DSLR camera and photo editing software to produce clear, beautiful tester photos.**

All of these tasks must be completed by their respective deadlines in order to be in the running for Patterns for Pirates’ Top Tester title.  Most of our testing periods last 4-7 days.

Winners will be announced on Monday, September 25, 2017!  Here are the prize packages:

Top Tester- 1st Place
Guaranteed testing spot for next 3 patterns
3 P4P pattern pack of choice
Pattern of Choice from Cole’s Creations and Made for Mermaids
LFRB Fabric Bundle from Sly Fox Fabrics

Runner-up
Guaranteed testing spot for next pattern
3 P4P pattern pack of choice
LFRB Fabric Bundle from Surge Fabric Shop

*Note: while only 2 winners will be selected, depending on your performance and effort, you may be invited to join our testing group!!! Bring your A-Game, P4P Fans!

**Winners will be chosen by the Patterns for Pirates Team**

Are you ready to party?!  Make sure to tune into the P4P Facebook Group on Monday, so you can join the tester call!!

Beth has been showing off her baby bump comfy looks throughout the month so she caught the team’s eye. Just look how adorable she looks in her Favorite Tee and Palazzo short.

From the Cross my Heart Cami to FST and Cocoon Cardi, Beth has been rocking them all!

Don’t forget to hash tag your all P4P outfits post in August too. We look forward to seeing some of your Summer of Wovens creations too!

Without further ado….our March winner is….. Lizzy Price! Lizzy just shines in all her pictures and since I couldn’t choose just one of them, here are a few that stood out. I think she might just be our SOS pants queen 😉

Thank you all who posted during March and don’t forget to keep showing off those P4P outfits. Use hashtag #allP4Ptoday so we can find them and who knows? Maybe YOU will be our April winner. You can read the contest details here.

P4P Cardi Week :: Winners!

January 30, 2017

Cardi Week was a blast, don’t you think?  Thank you so much to everyone who sewed along with us, and especially to those of you who shared all over the interwebs photos of your makes.  I looked through all of the #P4PCardiWeek tags and here are a few of my favorites.

Cardigan-Making Machine:
I throughly enjoyed whenever a new photo of Dolores popped up in my feed last week!  Most of her fabrics were super thrifty finds too!

Favorite Nerdy Cardi:
Tamara knew the way directly to my heart was through Star Wars culture.  Isn’t this Cocoon Cardigan in Darth Vader fabric just the best in the galaxy?

Cutest Cardi Family:
Callie and her adorable girls stole the show with these mostly handmade outfits for her and her girls.  Did you play iSpy with the two cardigans that made it into the picture?  The Carefree Cardigan with the lace details gives me all sorts of heart eyes.

Favorite Original + Carbon Copy:
I’m sorry, but a Mommy & Me matching outfit is just too much for me to handle.  Aren’t Amanda and her little so sweet together?

We had an amazing week of cardi celebrations!  Did you have as much fun as I did?

Big thanks to our fabulous blogging team for showing us how easy it is to take our patterns one step further!
